TV subscriptions need not be an added financial burden to you. And because of stiff competition from internet service, satellite TV, and other cable TV providers, they may also be open to negotiating with you. Remember, as a paying customer, you have the right to choose which provider to sign up with. Following are some tips on how you can get the best TV subscription rates.
Downgrade your current service
You can save money by looking for better packages or by downloading your current subscription. There may be channels in your current package that you don't need. In some cases, the most basic or limited packages already offer the local and cable channels you need. Some cable TV service provider also offer bundled or longer contracts that will protect you rate increases for the duration of the contract term.
Find out if you can get a special pricing for loyalty
Some sales reps may not have the authority to offer a lower price to existing or prospective subscribers. If this is the case, you can politely ask to speak to the sales agent's superior or the department in charge of retaining or maintaining customers, if the company has one. If you have been loyal to the company and have been their subscriber for a few years, you can ask for a discount on your current package, or a free package upgrade.
If you are not a current subscriber, tell them that you are willing to be tied up to a relatively long term subscription contract with only one provider, and that you can bring your offer to a competitor if they do not want your business. Once the company realizes how much money they will lose to their competitor, they may reconsider their position.
Refer to competitor prices
Service providers will not turn down an opportunity to keep their current subscribers or sign up new ones. Compare the rates offered by other TV service providers in your area and if you find a company offering a more competitive pricing than your current provider, call your company and tell them that you will only renew your subscription if they can offer better terms than the one you found. Otherwise, tell them that you have no choice but to sign up with one of the other TV Service providers in you area.
